A leading charity organization established in 2023 with a clear mission: to proactively address and fight for digital rights in Uganda. At DRA, we envision an open internet, free from threats to expression, association, assembly, privacy, and other fundamental human rights in the digital age, particularly in repressive and transitional environments.

Our vision is a future where every Ugandan enjoys the full range of rights and freedoms in the digital realm, fostering a free and safe society.

MISSION

We are dedicated to building a free and safe Uganda by providing a holistic response to digital rights threats and creating resilient and sustainable networks to support the fight for fundamental human rights in the digital age.

OUR FOCUS

At Digital Rights Advocacy (DRA) – Uganda, we believe in a comprehensive approach to safeguarding digital rights. Our focus extends beyond mere advocacy to address a wide array of issues impacting digital freedom and human rights in Uganda. Here’s an in-depth look at our key focus areas:

Freedom of Expression

We champion the right to freely express oneself online without fear of censorship or reprisal. Our advocacy efforts aim to protect individuals and groups from undue restrictions on their digital expression, fostering a vibrant and inclusive online discourse.

Digital Security

Ensuring the digital safety and security of all Ugandans is paramount to our mission. We provide resources, training, and support to empower individuals and organizations to defend against cyber threats, safeguard their data, and mitigate risks associated with digital technologies.

Privacy and Data Protection

We advocate for robust privacy laws and regulations to protect individuals' personal information from unauthorized access, surveillance, and exploitation. Our initiatives promote awareness of privacy rights and empower individuals to take control of their digital footprints.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

As AI technologies become increasingly pervasive, we advocate for ethical AI practices that prioritize transparency, accountability, and human rights. We work to address the potential risks and biases inherent in AI systems to ensure they uphold the dignity and rights of all users.

Internet Shutdowns

We vehemently oppose internet shutdowns and advocate for policies that uphold the right to access information and communicate freely online, even during times of crisis or political unrest. Our efforts aim to hold governments and ISPs accountable for any unjustified restrictions on internet access.

Environment

Recognizing the intersection of digital technologies and environmental sustainability, we promote initiatives that harness the power of ICTs to address environmental challenges and advance sustainable development goals.

Health

In the digital age, access to accurate health information and telemedicine services is crucial. We advocate for policies that ensure equitable access to digital health resources and protect individuals' rights to privacy and confidentiality in healthcare settings.

Cybersecurity

Protecting critical infrastructure and safeguarding against cyber threats is essential for national security and economic stability. We collaborate with government agencies, businesses, and civil society to strengthen cybersecurity measures and promote responsible cyber hygiene practices.
